How do you sterilize medical devices?

C B said:

I stethescope a chest that is used widely in good condition. However, I don 't want to just clean it, sterilize it but, if all we can. Who knows where it 's been, even if looks like it' s never used. I 'm. this side of being a "germaphobe" and I want to make sure this thing is really clean every corner and crack! Thank you!

  1. do not need? really sterilize a stethescope it was going to be "contaminated" the next time you use it yet, you can clean them with some alcohol or lysol if that makes you feel better, is going to be almost free from germs and pi? clean. good luck

  2. The surgical instruments are typically sterilized using a device called an autoclave, which is basically just a pressure cooker that is destroying instruments with hot steam. However, submitting a stethoscope to this kind of heat (or even just to boil it) the damage beyond use. Cleaning with isopropyl alcohol of 70% will be completely sufficient.

  3. Hospitals sterilized medical devices in several ways. Could use a machine called an autoclave, which heats the water well above the boiling point. Or could use the radiation (gamma rays). Or could assailing pressure with toxic gases. What you do: You could boil it if it 's all over the metal. If not, you could soak in the alcohol and use antibacterial cleaning. I don 't think there' s any way you could get real what a hospital would have considered "sterile", but you can approximate the "aseptic".
